چکیده

Introduction: Acoustic detection of targets in shallow water environments is difficult due to high levels of anisotropic acoustic background noise. Detection range can be improved by simultaneously measuring nonacoustic signatures such as electromagnetic fields. A fiber laser vector magnetometer has been developed for seabed-mounted surveillance arrays. Three orthogonally mounted sensors measure each component of the Earth’s field. Perturbations within these signals enable detection and tracking of remote targets.

Design and Application of a Photoacoustic Sensor for Monitoring the Laser Generated Stress Waves in Optical Fiber

Measurement of stress transients generated by a 400ns pulsed HF laser in an infrared fluoride glass fiber has been made using fast time – response piezoelectric film transducer. Acoustic signals up to 12 mV with frequencies ranging in megahertz generated by 21 mJ laser pulse when passed through the fiber axis in the linear region. It is shown that useful information such as onset of non - linea...

Real Time Calibration of Strap-down Three-Axis-Magnetometer for Attitude Estimation

Three-axis-magnetometers (TAMs) are widely utilized as a key component of attitude determination subsystems and as such are considered the corner stone of navigation for low Earth orbiting (LEO) space systems. Precise geomagnetic-based navigation demands accurate calibration of the magnetometers. In this regard, a complete online calibration process of TAM is developed in the current research t...

A High-Sensitivity Tunable Two-Beam Fiber-Coupled High-Density Magnetometer with Laser Heating

Atomic magnetometers (AM) are finding many applications in biomagnetism, national security, industry, and science. Fiber-coupled (FC) designs promise to make them compact and flexible for operation. Most FC designs are based on a single-beam configuration or electrical heating. Here, we demonstrate a two-beam FC AM with laser heating that has 5 fT/Hz1/2 sensitivity at low frequency (50 Hz), whi...

Composite Cavity Fiber Laser with Asymmetric Output Intensity and Wavelength

The composite cavity fiber laser (CCFL) is relatively simple in its fabrication, as it is essentially three wavelength matched Bragg gratings in a section of doped fiber. By using internal feedback with unequal sub-cavity lengths, unidirectional CCFLs with significantly asymmetric output power from its two outputs can be achieved. Preliminary results also show that it is possible for the lasing...

Development of a Surface Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect Magnetometer

This thesis presents the development and optimization of a surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) magnetometer. Our magnetometer is explained in terms of its three major parts: mechanical setup, electrical connections, and LabVIEW programming. An upgrade of the electrical system is shown to double the available applied field. Studies of the deviation angle and incident polarization direction...
